Ivory Tower’s top tips to finding the perfect bridal gown.

Research styles, looks and designers.

There is a plethora of information available online and this can be the quickest and easiest way to research your perfect look and style.

You can use social media to create mood boards, list ideas, select preferred designers and themes.

Look for connecting themes, for example are the gowns selected from a particular designer or are you drawn to certain shapes and fabrics?

Create your individual look.

Decide if you prefer a traditional look or a more contemporary look. Remember you will be looking back at your wedding pictures for years to come!

Think about your chosen venue, theme, location and time of year. For winter and outdoor weddings, maybe consider gowns with sleeves or cover ups.

Decide on a silhouette; although this doesn’t have to be set in stone, it can be helpful when shortlisting gowns during your bridal consultation.

Think about your style to reflect you and your personality. Are you looking for classic timeless elegance, maybe something dreamy and romantic or chic, demure, and glamourous?

Also consider your theme and venue. Are you going vintage, black tie, or relaxed and intimate? Have you chosen a church setting or civil wedding?

Whatever your choice, there are so many stunning options available.

Research boutiques to visit and shop as early as you can.

Once you have shortlisted your selection, research which boutiques carry these looks, designers and styles. It is worth setting a budget too and checking the price point before visiting to ensure you don’t have a wasted journey. Also, research chosen boutiques to ensure they are reputable and maybe ask friends for recommendations too as excellent customer service throughout this process is so important!

Select a small number of boutiques that fit with the service that you would like and contact them in advance as many boutiques now operate by appointment only.

Check with the boutique that they stock your preferred options. For example, are you looking for a bespoke gown, specifically made for you and to your measurements? Or are you looking to buy a dress off the peg and take it away? Would you like to buy from a boutique which offers a complete in house measuring and fitting service?

Bridal boutiques offer different services and therefore it is important that part of your research process is to understand what your shortlisted boutiques offer and if they fit with your criteria. Understand their price points and protocols; for example, how many guests are allowed to an appointment and is there a charge for an appointment?

If you can, start the search for your perfect gown as early as you can. Many designers have long lead times therefore make sure you allow as much time as possible to ensure you have plenty of time to plan appointments and fittings once your gown has been delivered.

Stay true to yourself and be absolutely sure that your gown is ‘the one’ before saying “Yes” to the dress!

As you are on the exciting journey of selecting your dream gown, it can be very easy to be diverted and lose focus, especially with many influencers being involved with you in the process.

Make sure you recap on your original ideas after trying on gowns to be sure you aren’t deviating from your original thought process – believe in yourself and your individuality and be sure to carry this through in your final choice of gown!

Most of all enjoy every minute from the start of your journey right through to your Wedding Day. Choosing your perfect gown will be one of the most unforgettable times of your wedding planning process!

Top Ten Tips for Styling an Autumnal or Winter Wedding

Top Ten Tips for Styling an Autumnal or Winter Wedding – Inspiration and Guidance from Lux Wedding Planner, a luxury UK wedding planner.

It’s a pleasure to introduce you to Ivory Tower’s recommended supplier

Lux Wedding Planner

Founded by the lovely Georgie, Lux Wedding Planner ensures that a couple’s dream wedding – whether it be at a charming country estate, historic castle, or a luxurious marquee within family grounds – is a unique experience full of stylish details.

Georgie, please introduce yourself to our followers:

With experience in designing refined and sophisticated large-scale events, I ensure that a couple’s vision comes to life, creating an unforgettable and unique wedding. As a luxury wedding planner, I take huge pride in designing and delivering a seamlessly planned and bespoke celebration that is inspired by my couples and it brings me so much joy to watch one of life’s most poignant moments unfold before my eyes.

Given, the time of year, Georgie shares her top ten tips in creating the perfect seasonal wedding.

With crisp air, vibrant foliage, and warm, earthy tones, autumn and winter are beautiful seasons to host a wedding. The beauty of nature during this time of year can serve as a stunning backdrop for your special day. Whether you’re planning a rustic affair, a romantic celebration, or a more modern event, styling an autumnal wedding can be a truly magical experience.

Colour Palette:

I recommend embracing the rich and warm colours, such as deep reds, burnt oranges, rustic browns, golden yellows and toffee-like colours. These hues can be incorporated into various elements of your wedding, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the table settings. Add pops of complementary colours like sage green or burgundy to create a balanced and visually pleasing palette.

Invitations:

Set the tone for your wedding with invitations that reflect the season’s beauty. Consider using rustic designs, incorporating leaves, acorns, or pumpkins into the artwork, and opting for textured paper with warm colour schemes. Copper or gold foil accents can add a touch of elegance.

Venue Selection:

Choose a venue that captures the essence of the season. Barns, vineyards and manor houses with woodlands can provide the perfect backdrop. The UK offers a wealth of historic estates and gardens that come alive with the autumn charm. I always advise couples to ensure that their chosen venue has good indoor spaces in case of unpredictable weather.

Floral Arrangements:

There are a plethora of floral options available at this time of year, including dahlias, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers. Combine these with seasonal foliage like eucalyptus, ferns, and berries to create stunning bouquets and centrepieces. Dried flowers and wheat stalks can also add a rustic touch.

Table Décor:

Incorporate natural elements into your table décor, such as wooden chargers, linen table runners, and vintage crockery. Candles or lanterns can also create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Attire:

Choose wedding attire that aligns with the season. For the bride, consider a long-sleeved or lace gown in ivory or champagne tones. Bridesmaids can wear dresses in shades of burgundy, deep green, or rust. Groomsmen can complement the palette with matching ties or boutonnieres.

Food and Drink:

Autumn and winter cuisine can be a delight for the senses. Incorporate seasonal ingredients like butternut squash, apples, and pumpkin into your menu. Offer a warm apple cider station and signature cocktails like spiced mulled wine. A dessert table featuring pies, tarts, and caramel apples can be a sweet addition.

Favours and Décor:

Consider giving your guests season-themed wedding favours, such as sloe gin, jars of homemade jam or locally sourced honey. Personalised, hand-painted leaves as place cards can add a personal touch to your décor.

Entertainment:

Live acoustic music or a jazz band can set a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. A bonfire with marshmallow roasting or a s’mores station can be a fun and memorable activity for your guests.

Photography:

This time of year provides a breath taking backdrop for wedding photos. Schedule a photoshoot during the golden hour to capture the warm, soft light and the stunning foliage in autumn. Don’t forget to take a walk through the leaves for some candid shots.

Planning an autumnal or winter wedding in the UK allows you to embrace the beauty and charm of the season. By incorporating these elements and considering the natural beauty of the season, your wedding will be a truly unforgettable event. From the warm colour palette to the cosy, rustic décor, your special day will be filled with the magic of the season.
